The department of Physics of the University of Buea is organising a competition for the design of its logo.

The logo, which has to be original, should explicitly reflect one of the principal areas of study in the department (Theoretical Physics, Mechanics, Electronics, Electromagnetism, Solid State Physics, Quantum Physics, Cosmology, Optics, computational physics).

The competition is open exclusively to students of the department of Physics, and runs from 20 to 30 November 2004.

The winner who will be known on December 03 2004, will receive a symbolic prize from the department and a letter acknowledging the excellence of his/her art, co-signed by the head of department and the head of organizing committee.

Students interested in competing should deposit their logo in rooms B117(Mr. Soné E.) and B118(Dr Dikandé A. M.) of the Physics department, in a sealed envelope with their names clearly written on it.

Dear colleagues,

The Physics Department of the University of Buea is currently compiling a list of speakers for the seminar program of the Department, for the academic year 2004-2005. The round of seminars will be launched in January 2005. The research themes currently pursued in the Department include applied physics(geophysics, electronics and medical physics), theoretical physics(non linear mathematical physics with emphasis on soliton propagation in optical and electrical communication networks, non linear approaches to the dynamics of Earthquake and non linear excitations in biophysical systems; material science and strongly correlated electron systems), mathematical physics and computational physics. Therefore, staff from Departments of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science are cordially invited to join our seminar program. Prospective speakers should submit titles and abstracts of their talk to Dr. Dikandé Alain Moïse(Physics Department, Room B118 or call # 3210), who is the coordinator for seminars. Please also remember to indicate two different dates(months and days) when you are firmly sure to be ready to give your seminar. We expect to schedule a talk every two weeks(on Wednesday afternoon), depending on the number of registered speakers.

When preparing your presentations, take note that seminars are addressed to both staff and postgraduates, most of who are not familiar with the field(s) covered by the subject of your talk. Consequently, we strongly recommend a pedagogical approach in both the preparation and presentation of seminars.
